Time-wasters

I've been spending my time less than productively, lately.

Time-waster number 1: Facebook. Thanks, Kara :P I now spend way too much time playing Lost trivia, and taking quizzes!

Time-waster number 2: Freerice.com. Thanks to Lisa for addicting me to this one. It's a website which is a vocabulary quiz, that, supposedly donates 20 grains of rice for every word you get right. There are levels from 1 to 55. The highest most people get is 48 (I managed to get there once- DH actually made it to level 40)...and it's a constant temptation to see if I can go just a little farther. Only trouble is, each word you get wrong drops you down a level, and it takes 3 correct answers in a row to get back up to the next level again!

Time-waster number 3: Homemade valentines. I get ads in my e-mail all the time for various digiscrap stores- I usually don't look at them though. One day a few weeks ago, though, I did...and they were advertising a template for pillow boxes that you could make to put treats in- for Valentines, or wedding favors, or whatever. I thought- that looks like fun!- and suggested it to Isabelle, who was enthusiastic. And then Rebecca of course wanted whatever her sister had. So....I ended up making 48 pillow boxes, which are now stuffed with chocolate, and waiting to be delivered to their respective Valentine's parties! Here's a pic...

Feeling Lost...

Not literally- just bouncing up and down with excitement over the return of the TV show!

I didn't get addicted until near the end of the second...when DH and I started getting the DVD's of the first season from Netflix...before even the end of the series premiere, we were hooked! Now if only the kids would decide to put themselves to bed early, so that we can watch it live. LOL. Thank heavens for the DVR!

We're also waiting with baited breath to see if we get a snow day tomorrow...those happen rarely and always cause lots of challenges and excitement- we may get 6-12 inches of snow though...so we'll see!

And now...

Booking Through Thursday (which I think was my last post before the long hiatus)

This week’s question is suggested by (blogless) JMutford:
Sometimes I find eccentric characters quirky and fun, other times I find them too unbelievable and annoying. What are some of the more outrageous characters you’ve read, and how do you feel about them?

Let's see...my latest reading obsession has been the Agent Pendergast series by Preston & Childs...he definately counts as eccentric! He's one of those people that in real life would probably annoy the heck out of me...although could he really exist in real life? He's genius smart and seems to know quite a bit about just about everything. He's also a bit of a MacGyver (or however you spell that) type, and can survive just about anything, along with being a master of disguise. I love reading about him as a character, but, since I have this tendency to put myself in major characters shoes, and think "Hmm, in this situation, could I do that?" he makes me feel woefully inadequate!

Blah, blah, blah, blog...

OK, it's been a long time since I've posted. I'd like to blame it all on "The Dollhouse Project", which indeed take up WAY too much time...but that didn't start until September...so the fact remains that I am a slacker. I guess my life is too boring to write about :)

Anyway...I haven't posted about "The Dollhouse Project", and it's now a month after Christmas, so I guess I should.

I've always loved looking at those make it yourself dollhouse kits. Mom made me one when I was younger, and I've always dreamed of making one for my daughters. I thought I'd wait til they were older and less likely to destroy it...then I started worrying...with the way kids seem to be growing up so much faster (my 6 year old is already graduating into "tween stuff", God help me!), maybe they won't be interested when they are old enough not to destroy it.

So, I found a 40% off any one item at Hobby Lobby coupon, and took the plunge. Got it home, opened it up to look at the instruction manual...and realized we were doomed! We had to build this thing from the foundation up. The main pieces were cut out at least (although, DH had to cut the trim to fit)...but everything had to be painted, and glued, and held into place...3 floors, 8 rooms, and 1000 shingles (which had to be dyed, and individually set into place). We worked on that dollhouse at least 5 nights a week until the week before Christmas...and that was for the outside!

Then, in that final week, DH wired it for electricity (which would NOT have been necessary, but was really cool :) ) and we wallpapered and carpeted. And it turned out rather well I think...and the girls are still spontaneously playing with it, if not every day, at least often enough, a month after we gave it to them...which in toy terms is pretty good!

And now...the not so great pictures of the great dollhouse :) I have photos of the rooms with furniture in them...but I'm frustrated with the adding photos right now, so I'll post them later (and hopefully, it won't be 6 months later!)
